Our parents are the best way to to learn about us. Words that we often hear describing Spring Hill students are: respectful, kind, smart, engaged, passionate, joyful. Read here what some of our parents have said:
“Thanks to Spring Hill’s Elementary Program, we have a child who can’t wait to go to school each day. We’re grateful to have a school where curiosity is nurtured, creativity is inspired and intellect is challenged. In addition to the stellar education that Spring Hill provides, the children are fortunate to be learning in a truly idyllic setting–one which lends itself to children being connected with nature and our environment.” ~Heather and Jamie, Elementary Parents
“At three years old, my son was very shy. He would always hide behind me when we were around new people, and he would not talk. His whole world changed for the better thanks to Spring Hill. I am a believer in the Montessori philosophy: Follow the child. When I was seeking out the right preschool for my son, I brought him along with me to each school – I value his opinion and his reactions to experiences.
“Of the 10 schools that we looked at over the course of a three week period, Spring Hill stood out for both of us. When we first arrived at the school, we met with Shaharazad Hamidi, the Head of the School. Within less than a minute of meeting us, she had engaged my son in a conversation. We had the same experience with my son’s teacher – in under a minute, she had engaged my son in conversation and activity with a brief “Bye mom, love you!” and a wave as he walked away. It brought tears to my eyes (and it still does) to know that this is an environment where my son is loved, cherished, valued, and well cared for every day, while allowing him to be who he is and providing him with a stellar, holistic education.” ~Aspen, Elementary Parent
“We love having Joshua at Spring Hill! The staff is caring and supportive, the materials are quality and the campus is beautiful. What I think we like best is the attitude of his teachers. They celebrate Joshua for who he is and allow his pace to be owned just by him. He wants to go to school every day! He feels so encouraged and validated in everything he does, he just can’t stay away!” ~Angela and James, Preschool Parents
“We are so blessed. Our son is getting the mind-body-spirit education of a lifetime. There is nothing better than seeing him inspired. Over the last 3½ years we’ve absolutely loved watching him absorb diverse impressions about humanity and dive into a graduated interplay of practical information and tasks, beautifully expanding his awareness and skills. The tangible, layered, and progressive Montessori way of teaching has made so many concepts accessible to him; not that we’re in a hurry, but it’s exciting to see him already happily engaged with so much of what’s wonderful and fascinating about life, and he’s only a first grade student!
“How do we put into words the tribute you deserve? You have helped raise our child.
“We get it. We see it. Each day while our son is at school, the Spring Hill teaching team calmly sets fire to his imagination, and you set up countless opportunities for discovery, mastery, personal accountability, leadership, quantifying, creativity, and now, even the beginnings of abstract thinking, only to name a few. This is all happening while you are warmly bearing witness to his cognitive and emotional forays. You all have been there for so many milestones! So many first-times! So many introductions! You have offered endless patience and mirroring! THANK YOU!
“We just happen to know that the brain and self get developed through relationship. But even if we didn’t know about all that stuff, we would, as parents, intuitively and instinctually recognize that his relationships at this school with such genuine, attuned teachers and sweet peers are playing a TREMENDOUS role in shaping his brain. Shaping who he is becoming as a person. (Like being in front row seats, we are watching together how this type of daily, secure, expansive, interactive learning experience really does lay down and reinforce vital and regulatory neural pathways. Holistic free-thinking and self-regulation are things our son is definitely going to need. OK, we all need!) It’s just awesome and, priceless, actually. We rest a little easier seeing the nascent infrastructure beginning to take hold within our son. There is nothing more precious to us!
“Your school is the best inoculation we can think of to give him, as he enters this big world.” ~Shawn and Zac, Elementary Parents
“We have been so, so pleased with Spring Hill. The teachers are smart and wonderful and caring. The whole team goes out of the way to be welcoming, inviting, and receptive. Also, it feels very, very organized! The parenting community is down to earth and friendly. I appreciate how much effort you put into the parent-admin-classroom-school connection. And I personally am getting a lot out of my school involvement.
“Milo has settled in beautifully into the classroom. He seems content every day when I pick him up. And his brain seems to be doing quite well. His reading/writing is steadily on its way. Most importantly, he is just a deeply curious being (as are all kids, I’m sure) and clearly his passion to ask/learn is being fostered and encouraged. We went to Children as Teachers night and it was wonderful.
“Thank you! And for all the beautiful communication and good will efforts from the entire admin team.” ~Elissa, Kindergarten Parent
“We really enjoyed the Children as Teachers night. Cash is settling in nicely, and loves school and his teachers. You all do an amazing job. Thanks for keeping up the weekly newsletters and organizing everything so well.” ~Margaret, Preschool Parent
“Our son started at age 3 in Spring Hill’s preschool and he is now in 4th grade. Since attending the school he has flourished, not just academically but also emotionally. The kindergarten program was superior to any other we looked at and we were thrilled with it. When it came time to choose an elementary school, we did our homework and looked at countless schools all around and were thrilled to be at Spring Hill. We couldn’t be happier. He works hard but enjoys school and learns in a magical and positive environment. While other schools cut many activities, we still have music, art, a PE teacher and countless special visits. A wonderful school!” ~Magali, Elementary Parent
“Sophia is very happy and well settled into her new classroom. She adores her teachers. I think the mixed age classroom works really well for her and she enjoys learning from the older children – she told me the other day that Lulu taught her how to button her sweater.” ~Racy, Preschool Parent
“We absolutely love Zoey’s teachers! Zoey has been so happy in her class and LOVES going to school. Every day she tells me she had a ‘super great’ or ‘amazing’ day at school. A couple weeks ago she was the ‘banker’ (the only one) and it was so fun watching her tell me about it. She has made great progress in learning her letters, sounds, and numbers in the past couple of months, and is very excited about learning as well.” ~Jen, Preschool Parent
“This morning I was reading Thich Nhat Hanh about the importance of teaching our children about things like dealing with anger, reconciling conflicts and taking time to smile and appreciate those around them, and how rarely that happens. It reminded me how blessed we were that our daughter, Megan, attended the Spring Hill Montessori school. How lucky we were to have you guys around. She’s turned into a beautiful, accomplished, loving and caring young woman. Thank you!” ~Hollis and Charlie, Alum Parent
“Spring Hill Montessori was the perfect place for our son.
“From birth he was extremely shy in social settings. The quiet and respectful environment in the Toddler classroom was the ideal setting for him to face his fears, begin his academic foundation and have a good time! When he moved up to the Primary classroom, his teachers were able to continue challenging him in a way that was still comfortable, allowing him to grow both socially and academically. At age 4, I barely remember the timid, shy child who seemed so fraught with anxiety at age 18 months – he is now confident, curious, and comfortable in crowds (a true feat).
“The teachers at Spring Hill are truly skilled at identifying each child’s needs and working with them to grow at a pace that is appropriate for that individual. They even taught me tricks on how to respond to my son at home, for which I am grateful. There were several Montessori options in town from which to choose, but I really think it is the teachers at Spring Hill that made my son’s preschool years a success.
“I also believe it is the adherence to traditional Montessori philosophy at Spring Hill that helped my son excel academically. At age 4 he could count to 100, do basic addition and subtraction, read level one books, and knew tons of facts about the world. Waiting to take turns on jobs and work with other children on jobs taught him how to assess his environment, respect others, and work together. Every single day he came home and told me how much fun he had at school and would surprise me with facts about various subject matters and his own progress in math and language.
“I couldn’t be happier with my choice in schools. It was worth every penny.” ~Karen, Preschool Parent
“Our daughter seems very happy at school, more than I ever could have hoped for. Last night, she said, ‘I wish that the whole world was filled with schools like mine.’ I asked, ‘Why honey?’ And she said ‘Because I think children would be much happier.’ Thank you!”~Christina, Elementary Parent
“My four children attended Spring Hill beginning with the toddler program and continuing through the 6th grade. They are now young adults, happy and successful in their lives. The oldest is a graduate of San Diego State University and is employed in his field of study as a financial analyst, the second just graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in art and a passion in food politics and social issues and is spending the summer traveling Europe before embarking on her career. The youngest two are college students, pursuing academics and passions and enjoying the social aspects of college life.
“I have no doubt that the foundation they received at Spring Hill has been instrumental in the success they have had in their lives. They learned to be responsible, accountable to their commitments, and engaged in their learning. They learned how to learn. The mentoring relationships they developed with teachers who were with them for multiple years gave them the gift of knowing that adults are there to support them, and this was extremely important as they navigated middle school and high school.
“The school community taught them life skills that they lived as opposed to being ‘taught’ how to collaborate and get along with different types of people.
“I truly believe that the kind of learning that happens at Spring Hill – hands-on, project-based, encouraged to question and research, follow their passions – allowed them to develop skills that many of their peers do not share. I think their brains are wired differently – they are inquisitive in ways beyond what I see in other young adults, they are on a constant quest to learn, they are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in their lives. What more can a parent ask for?” ~Karen, Alum Parent
“Max loves school! He is very eager to go every morning and is very bonded with his teachers and classmates. We have been very happy with his enthusiasm. As a parent and a teacher, it makes me so content to see him so enthusiastic about learning! As you know he loves it so much, he doesn’t want to leave!” ~Juliet, Toddler parent
“Geffen is really thriving at Spring Hill! He is so proud of his work (I decorated his door with what he brought home from school). I love all of the teachers at Spring Hill. Of course, I am more partial to my son’s teachers. I think they have been amazing and have connected with him. Both of them have been wonderful to work with and are special teachers. They are patient and caring, respectful and so smart. I’m amazed at what Geffen is learning and how he loves he teachers. I can’t say enough good things about Spring Hill. Spring Hill is a great school.” ~Debbie, Preschool Parent
“Our daughter is a freshman at Sonoma Academy. She is an excellent student and has great love of learning. She already knows that she wants to go to Columbia University. Her time management has been a great asset to her. Thank you for all the gifts you gave our daughter.” ~Kathleen, Alum Parent
“We’re happy as clams with the care and education Oliver and Charlotte get with Spring Hill. I know they are in great hands with their amazing and caring teachers.” ~Charlotte, Toddler & Preschool Parent
“Shelby is settling in to her class well. She is enjoying the work and likes going to school every morning. We are pleased with the classroom and the teachers. We are happy with Spring Hill overall. Georgia will be attending next year, which I can’t believe! It goes so fast.” ~Lacey, Preschool Parent
“Spring Hill Montessori provides a nurturing environment for our daughter to explore her academic and social growth. She is encouraged to share her strengths and meet her challenges in the classroom in a way that builds her confidence as an individual. We are especially appreciative of Spring Hill’s recognition that an excellent education must include music, the arts and foreign language as well as math, science and language arts.” ~Leslie and Craig, Elementary Parents
“Spring Hill is a wonderful school for any child. We came to Spring Hill Montessori in 2008 from Novato and never looked back. This school offers Montessori education for children from the age of 18 months. The teachers are superior to any other teachers we have ever encountered. We now have both of our children at Spring Hill, and our youngest started at 18 months, is now almost 4 and he is completely bilingual thanks to Spring Hill and their bilingual programs! Awesome Awesome Awesome and very family oriented!” ~C.L., Preschool Parent
Summer Camp Testimonials
“Alexa had an absolutely wonderful summer! All of the summer school teachers were so warm and loving and I could really tell they loved working with the kids. Alexa came home singing the camp songs and telling me stories of various adventures at the school. The camp topics/concentrations were presented in an engaging and fun way! The crafts tied in to what the kids were learning about and Alexa had a great time decorating her room with the hand crafted treasures of the summer. It was a very memorable experience for her this summer; chasing chickens, singing dinosaur songs, and discussing the characters in Shakespeare’s play! This is not the average summer school, its designed and run by amazing staff and its shows in the smiles on the kids’ faces. We will be back next summer for sure! Thanks you to all!”
“Our dinner conversations during art camp revolved around the various artists introduced in camp, some of whom were even new to us as parents (e.g. Judy Chicago). What an amazing experience for children to be exposed to diverse artists (e.g., Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollack, and Monet) and then have the opportunity create art in the various mediums in which these artists worked.”
“This was a gem of an educational program, and an incredibly positive experience for our child. Our son had the opportunity to go boating one day during the session, to which he declared, ‘I can’t miss art camp today to go boating; I’d miss painting outdoors on canvas, like Monet.'”
“The theater program was a true gift, both for the participating children, and their families. Observing the enthusiasm and thoughtful practice that went into preparing for the performance was a treat, and experiencing the children’s beautiful performance of “The Tempest” outdoors on the Spring Hill Elementary campus on a rather tempestuous day was simply magical.”
“Not only was the theater program thoroughly enjoyable and educational, but the self-confidence, poise and composure that our son has developed as a result of preparing and performing a theatrical production is impressive.
“To have access to a theater program of this caliber is remarkable. It’s on par with the children’s theater programs offered in NYC, although with the advantage of being situated on the idyllic Spring Hill Elementary Campus, an enchanted stage.”
